“Working Together for South Berwick”

1
Safe, Connected Neighborhoods
Enhancing public safety, maintaining our roads and parks, and supporting first responders. As a parent I connect with the walkability of South Berwick. I want to be able to go for a walk with my family and not be limited by the lack of sidewalks or crosswalks. Let’s enhance the strong foundation we already have.
2
Support for Local Business & Families
As someone whose family is directly connected to the local business community—my wife works for a business here in town—I understand both the value that small businesses bring to South Berwick and the challenges they often face. I’ve had the opportunity to speak with several local business owners, and while their commitment to our town is strong, their experiences navigating the current systems and processes have not always been positive.
3
Smart, Sustainable Growth
As South Berwick continues to grow, it’s essential that we plan thoughtfully for the future—balancing fiscal responsibility with the preservation of our town’s unique character.
Smart growth means making strategic, data-informed decisions that ensure long-term financial health—without sacrificing what makes South Berwick such a special place to live. That includes ensuring that our seniors can age in place and our children can build their futures here.
4
Open, Responsive Government
I believe that good governance begins with transparency, accountability, and active public engagement. Residents deserve a Town Council that listens, responds, and operates with integrity and respect for public input.
Promoting open government means:
-
Practicing fiscal responsibility with clear communication about how tax dollars are spent
-
Ensuring public meetings, decisions, and records are easily accessible and understandable
-
Creating more opportunities for residents to stay informed, provide feedback, and participate in shaping the future of South Berwick
How?
Safe, Connected Neighborhoods:
A safe, accessible, and well-maintained town is essential to the quality of life for every South Berwick resident. That means continuing to support our first responders, investing in our roads and public spaces, and ensuring our infrastructure meets the needs of a growing community.
As a parent, I deeply value the walkability and connectedness of South Berwick. But too often, the lack of adequate sidewalks and crosswalks limits mobility—especially for families, children, and seniors. We can do better.
We must build on the strong foundation already in place by:
-
Prioritizing investments in sidewalks, street lighting, and safe pedestrian crossings
-
Maintaining and improving our roads, parks, and recreational spaces
-
Ensuring our firefighters, police officers, and emergency responders have the tools and support they need to keep our town safe
Smart infrastructure planning not only enhances public safety—it also strengthens community connection, promotes healthy living, and protects property values. As a Town Councilor, I will work to ensure that South Berwick remains a town where families can thrive and feel secure.
Support for Local Business & Families:
I fully support appropriate rules and regulations. However, I also believe that the experience of doing business in South Berwick matters. Entrepreneurs and small business owners should feel supported, welcomed, and empowered to build their futures here. When we make it easier for local businesses to succeed, we not only strengthen our local economy—we also generate more revenue that can be reinvested in the services and infrastructure our families rely on.
As a member of the Town Council, I will advocate for:
-
Streamlined, transparent permitting and licensing processes
-
Clear communication and support for new and existing business owners
-
A town environment that encourages entrepreneurship while maintaining community standards
Creating a business-friendly South Berwick means investing in both our economic resilience and our community well-being.
Smart, Sustainable Growth:
One step toward this goal is exploring the potential to hire a Finance Director with formal training and experience in municipal finance. A dedicated professional in this role could help the town not only identify opportunities for cost savings, but also explore new and sustainable sources of revenue generation.
Currently our budget for 2025-2026 puts us at a 600k deficit. When I looked into the budget to understand where the increases were coming from I found no information.
As a member of the Town Council, I will support initiatives that:
-
Strengthen financial oversight and long-term planning
-
Promote responsible development that respects our town’s scale and charm
-
Maintain affordability for residents of all ages
Another option we could do is mimic our neighbor Berwick. Recently they announced that during the budget process they will be doing a “zero-based budget.” This means while some costs are fixed, it would force the work to be put out to bid. Forcing us to justify where every penny goes. And to also involve the community more.
With the right leadership and planning, South Berwick can thrive—both economically and as a close-knit, welcoming community.
Open, Responsive Government:
Recently, I expressed concern about the Council’s decision to move forward with a proposed “code of conduct” for community members. I submitted independent research and legal analysis outlining the potential First Amendment and due process implications of such a policy. It’s critical that any local ordinance respects the constitutional rights of our residents and fosters—not limits—public engagement.
As a member of the Town Council, I will advocate for:
-
Transparent policymaking grounded in data and legal precedent
-
Open lines of communication between the Council, Town Manager, and the community
-
Respect for civic participation, even when conversations are difficult
A healthy democracy depends on an informed and empowered public—and I will work to ensure that South Berwick leads by example.
